ELSIES' SPIRE
Elsies' Spire is located about 100 miles North-East of the Dragons' Inn, in the base of the rugged mountain range that protects the meadowlands from both nomadic invasions and the northern weather. Envision something like the Himalayas, but with very mild slopes for at least another 150 miles before you get to real, impassable mountain. Save for a few passes of course. The tough part of the mountain range, which contains the peaks, is also vast and is at least another 100 miles and has another 150 miles of slope on the other side. The range extends a good part across the continent, in a serpentine fashion. It is said that the tunnels that can be found in the mountain will take one under the ocean...
It is hard going and few people, given the agricultural economy of the land can afford the time to explore them. Adventurers find the mountains rich with hiding places, caves, tunnels, monsters, bandits, etc. Thus the garrison.
Elsies' Spire is a massive monolith on the edge of what appears to be a bottomless spring fed lake. Although a source of fresh water, it is not near any trade routes and is difficult to get to. The terrain is rock for miles around and supports little vegetation other than the soft grass around the spring. There is no reason to travel to it unless you are lost. Attempts to establish a permanent human presence have all met with disaster of some sort, so it remains a spot that a few adventurers know about and has little reason to interest anyone else.
