Damion Grey

A. J. Anderson: ajanders@chopin.udel.edu

Usual Appearance

Damion Grey stands nearly six feet tall. He has short black hair and flat grey eyes. Damion is remarkably thin, and would appear positively weedy if he was not usually seen wearing baggy trousers, loose-fitting shirts, and a long grey coat.

Occupation

Competent magician, skilled alchemist, healer, and engineer. He is also an accomplished scholar and archivist. Occasionally employed as a diplomat by the Consilium Arcanum.

Background

Damion Grey grew up in a land where wizards were generally regarded by the church as servants of evil powers. He was fortunate in that he was raised in the demesne of Duke Marius Fenton, who appreciated the power of magic and permitted its open practice. He spent most of his life apprenticed to a hedge wizard by the name of Jonathon Wellington Wells, who taught him practical magics based on the element of light. As he matured in his apprenticeship, he displayed a curiosity about magic -- and indeed, all forms of knowledge -- which led him to investigate many curious ruins and artifacts left by the previous inhabitants of Duke Fenton's land.

This knowledge of local ruins made him very attractive to several adventuring companies of various description. However, he approved of none of their aims. Therefore, he organized his own band of adventurers, the Lightseekers, and investigated several dozen ancient tombs and temples.

His activities rapidly brought him to the attention of the Consilium Arcanum, a group of magi dedicated to preserving the safety of magi. In practice, this meant fighting a limited war with the church and proving to secular leaders that magi would help, rather than hinder, them. Damion joined the Consilium while still playing an integral role in the activities of the Lightseekers. Under the influence of the Consilium, however, Damion shifted himself and the group away from the sole pursuit of knowledge.

The Lightseekers became known as the Guarding Lights, undertaking efforts against evil beings of the Underworld and the night. In this fashion, they rapidly became a group with a powerful political influence. The Guardian Lights rapidly grew from a small, inexperienced group of adventurers to a twenty-strong band that maintained several small strongholds.

Damion had meanwhile advanced in knowledge to the point where he could attempt to take a seat on the Consilium Magisteria, the governing body of the Consilium Arcanum. In order to receive this honor, he was required to perform a great task for the order. Damion elected to go to an evil temple known as Heart Of Darkness, penetrate to its libraries, and clean it out.

The temple was supposed to be abandoned. In reality, it was full of living shadows who hungered for human blood. Damion descended into the temple with one companion, a Gascoigne thief. Only he returned, shaken and half insane. The Consilium Arcanum temporarily relieved him of all duties and gave him a leave of absence.

Misc

Damion had a stronger mind than most people would have believed. He recovered from his ordeal enough to attempt another Magister quest in six months. The Consilium promptly turned him loose to find one...

Hu-Su

(I need a picture of a monk)

A. H.: ajh@panix.com

Usual Appearance

A middle aged oriental man, medium height with a well muscled frame. He will either wear monks robes or a loose fitting leather tunic and pants. He carries a roll from a strap on his shoulder and a Katana at his side. He is usually barefoot.

Occupation

Hu-Su is a monk, one of the Masters of his sect. He has found out, unfortunately, that in order to allow disciples to focus on their studies, the masters themselves must focus on the material world in order to support their system.

He runs a temple, Winters' Retreat, which finances most of his sect by providing a place of seclusion where nobles and relatively rich artisans and wizards may retreat to pursue their endeavors. To this end the temple runs a sideline business of providing rare materials to their guests and others who are willing to pay. Hu-Su himself usually goes out to procure the dangerous items.

Background

He comes from an aristocratic family. He was trainer of the Samurai, bodyguard and "special" envoy for difficult assignments for his Lord.

He had been very good. So good in fact, that when the time came for a duel, his Lord had bet a small fortune on his success. Unfortunately Hu-Su lost the duel and was stripped of his rank. The Lord dismissed him and hired the champion. He found out, much later, that he had lost because magic had been used against him.

Out of shame he returned his hereditary right, the family Katana. After months of aimless wandering, he came upon an old man who convinced him to study the martial arts with him, and to develop his own style. Obviously there's much more to the story, but that's for another time.

Psychological Profile

He views the honor system that used to be his as somewhat senseless since, sometimes makes people do unwise things. On the other hand it is what has held together the fabric of his homeland.

Mannerisms

He is very observant, a character flaw which, when combined with curiosity, can be either a blessing or a problem. He will use force only when necessary and then usually in proportion to the threat.

He will usually, and this may seem at odds with being a monk, be interested in making money. Although not interested in magic items per-se, he is very interested in collecting raw materials for magic endeavors. Both of these things are in the interests of his sect for which, as mentioned earlier, his monastery provides a majority of the funding.

Special Characteristics

He has developed his own style of martial arts. It also has a weapon which, not surprisingly, is the Katana. Unfortunately he found out that the skill with which he wields the Katana is a combination of his past training and his style the combination of which he has been unable to teach to his disciples. It is something he is still trying to figure out how to do since the methods although contrary in nature, are both strict mental disciplines,

Misc

His Katana was bequeathed to him by his master. It is the only one of its' kind possessed by a human being.

Kaitlyn Riandryl

Laura Overholt: overholt@mtholyoke.edu (played in absentia)

Kaitlyn Riandryl: human, about 25 yrs. of age, long blonde hair, green eyes.

She carries several daggers and has a short sword. She trained as a sorceress with a mage named Stefan (he's now thought to be dead).

She was involved in an accident (don't know the nature of it yet, but somebody died) concerning her mage-gifts, however, and decided that she didn't like them.

She has sworn never to use her gifts again, no matter how great the need. She seems haunted by bad memories and often has nightmares which she won't speak about. She has been traveling for a long time, trying to escape her past.

On a cold and rainy nite she ended up at the Dragon's Inn, which is where the adventure will begin.

Mac Conglinne

Patrick Ginty: ginty@acs.bu.edu

Usual Appearance

Mac stands at 5'5" with deep blue eyes, wavy black hair (with a few strands of silver) that lies free to his shoulders. His face is just beginning to show the lines of age, but beside that are cast in the typical angles of an elf. He wears a heavy blue traveling cloak over ash grey leather jerkin and pants. He has calf high soft leather riding boots. He usually has his short sword, long bow, several daggers, and a number of musical instruments (notably a set of pipes and a lyre). Most of his clothes and possessions are worn and show the signs of age and much travel.

Occupation

Bard

Background

Mac has been roaming the countryside singing and telling stories for so many years that the rumors about him are numerous, but since Mac both confirms and denies them all I won't go repeating them here. If Mac ever does decide to tell me the truth you will be the first to know. Hey, what would be the point in getting to know each other if I told you everything up front?

Psychological Profile

At first glance Mac appears to be highly unreliable. He is a wandering vagabond, penniless, and without a possession in the world. He is fond of fine ale and rich food (usually at someone else's expense). He cheats at dice, steals, spies, kills, and is free with other men's wives.

However, Mac is not as bad as he seems. He is merely happy and free in the world. His seeming love for debauchery is merely a hobby to occupy his time. When there is more pressing business he will drop everything else and devote himself with a single minded determination until he is done.

His motives are not greed, magic, revenge, or love, but are his own and if they sometimes seem to be no more than a whim he chooses not to explain. Life for him is an adventure.

Most people find him to be good humored and can't help themselves from liking him (he is quite charming). He has seen much and knows much that has been forgotten. In the end he is a good friend and worthy companion.

Mannerisms

Mac tries to get through life on his wit and charm. He is always smiling and laughing sometimes at nothing more than life itself. He can usually come up with a reason to avoid honest labor or to have a tankard and a bite usually at your expense.

He is a professional however and can not resist telling and embellishing a story or song, which he will habitually start into at the slightest chance, and will often go out of his way for the opportunity to hear one he has not heard before.

Misc

Mac's only constant companion is his familiar. a hawk named Adar Lanach. He is Mac's guard, scout, spy, fellow thief, and friend.

Nyx

Linda MacMillan: ap321@freenet.carleton.ca

Usual Appearance

A human female that looks to be in her early 20's. She is taller than average (not exceptionally, though). Her hair is long and dark brown which contrasts with her pale green, almost catlike eyes. She carries herself very straight and walks very quickly, yet gracefully. Her facial expression rather reserved.

Occupation

Mercenary. She's definitely very, very good at doing things for money.

Background

Manerisms

Nyx tends to be rather distant, impersonal, and cold. She is generally civil, except when asked personal questions, at which point she is immediately on the defensive. Although usually reserved, during her occasional "thaws" she can actually be quite friendly and displays a wry wit. When asked about her abilities, she tends to understate her own skills, but she takes great pride in them nonetheless. Overall, she seems more comfortable with her sword than with other people.

Special Characteristics

She carries an exceptional elven-made sword to which, for reasons known only to herself, she's very attached to. She also carries a variety of knives and daggers which are usually hidden and occasionally a bow and arrow.

Misc

She has an excellent mastery of swordspersonship and a good command of martial-arts. She often combines these two very effectively. She is also a good, although unexceptional, archer.

Quindar

I need a picture of a Cleric in Leather armor.

Jason Kuznicki: jtk3@po.cwru.edu

Usual Appearance

Quindar is a human, about 5'9" and 150 lbs. He has blue eyes and wavy, un- kempt brown hair. He wears a small goatee mustache.

Occupation

His calling in life is that of a cleric. He recieves magical abilities from a nameless power of good with which he is in contact. This power allows him to heal the sick or injured, control the weather to a limited extent, and create minor helpful effects to help his cause. His most respected power, at least among his enemies, is his ability to turn away the undead and evil spirits by invoking the power of his diety.

Background

Worldly to an extent that many clerics dare not go, Quindar enjoys adventure and intrigue, despite occasional warnings from those more powerful than him in the Order.

Mannerisms

His manner is hardly what one would expect of a cleric, however. He seldom wears clerical robes, preferring to wear a suit of leather armor and a dark green cape. Around his neck he wears a blessed golden amulet which he uses to invoke his powers. He has made his living in the secular world as an exorcist and wandering preacher of the Order of Nerion.

Special Characteristics

In battle, he is able to defend himself with a blessed mace given to him by the Patriarch of his order. It is a strong weapon against the living, but when wielded against the walking dead it does exceptional damage--Often the creature hit by it is utterly destroyed by the power of good within the mace.

Misc

Other possessions of his include a silver dagger, several small flasks of holy water, and a small prayerbook which he often reads from. He also keeps a small pouch filled with various herbs he uses in healing rituals and in exorcisms. He is highly knowledgeable in both the supernatural and in medicine.

The Band of the Autumn Leaf

This band of accomplished adventurers and is lead by a cavalier named Kazoar. The members of the band are a tight-lipped lot, giving out very little information about themselves or their purposes.

Not too much is known about them other than their reputation for being expensive to hire but also for not failing to accomplish their mission once their price has been met. Those that do know them also know there is little they won't do .. for a price.

The current members of the band are:
